Georgia's state external debt reached $9.068 billion in August 2026, increasing by $52 million in a month. In July, the figure was $9.016 billion. According to the Ministry of Finance, the government's direct external debt amounted to $8.805 billion, of which more than $6.759 billion is owed to multilateral creditors, and $1.547 billion to bilateral creditors.
Another $263.234 million constitutes the external obligations of the National Bank of Georgia. The largest creditor of the country remains the Asian Development Bank with claims totaling $2.508 billion. This is followed by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) – $1.914 billion, and the European Investment Bank (EIB) – $1.348 billion. The International Development Association (IDA) accounts for $345.770 million, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank for $243.058 million, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for $209.430 million.
Among individual states, Georgia's largest obligations are to France – $846.051 million and Germany – $576.889 million. In addition, the country owes Japan $106.078 million and has debts to a number of other states.
