From January to August 2026, electricity exports from Georgia decreased by almost 54% to 235.8 million kWh. Deliveries were made only in May, June, and July. In August, exports completely ceased, and exchange with Azerbaijan amounted to 7 million kWh. For comparison, in 2025, Georgia exported 511.2 million kWh, and a year earlier – more than 1 billion kWh.

Turkey traditionally remains the main foreign market – accounting for over 70% of supplies in 2026. One of the reasons for the sharp decline was the fall in prices in the Turkish market, which made exports economically unprofitable for Georgian energy companies. With an excess of internal generation, authorities also limited production, which increased producers' losses.

According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia, over eight months, the country received about 11.5 million dollars from electricity exports. This is approximately half the figure for the same period in 2025. Moreover, the decline has continued for the second consecutive year: after 1.47 billion kWh in 2023, exports decreased to 1.05 billion in 2024 and 511.2 million kWh in 2025.
