Russian airline Red Wings has applied to Rosaviatsiya for permits to operate new flights to Tbilisi and Batumi. If approved, the carrier plans to connect Tbilisi with Omsk, Volgograd, Izhevsk, Krasnoyarsk, Saratov, and Surgut.
For flights to Batumi, Red Wings requested permits, in particular, from Cherepovets, Cheboksary, Ulyanovsk, Nizhnekamsk, Barnaul, and Izhevsk. At the same time, Azimuth airline applied for temporary permits for flights from Perm, Samara, and Chelyabinsk to Tbilisi with a frequency of up to five flights per week.
Obtaining Russian permits does not automatically mean the launch of routes: flights will require approval from the Georgian side. Direct air communication between Russia and Georgia was restored in May 2023 after a four-year break.
In 2025, Red Wings transported more than 500 thousand passengers on the Georgian route, Azimuth – about 339 thousand people. In total, Russian airlines occupied about 10% of the Georgian air transportation market.
