Georgia expects to become a regional transit and export hub for “green” energy. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Inga Pkhaladze at the opening of the 9th World Forum on Energy Regulation. According to her, large infrastructure projects, including the construction of an underwater cable for electricity transmission across the Black Sea, should play a key role in implementing this strategy.

Tbilisi views such projects not only as the development of energy infrastructure. According to Pkhaladze, they can strengthen Georgia's role in regional, European, and international energy ties. For this, the country needs a unified vision, harmonized regulatory requirements, and closer interaction between regulators.

The authorities pay special attention to harmonizing energy legislation with EU norms. Pkhaladze believes that this will help make the market more transparent and predictable, protect consumers, attract investments, and prepare the energy system for integration with the European energy space. Among the key challenges, she also named the development of renewable energy sources, energy storage, cybersecurity, climate change, and the implementation of AI.
