Why is the Internet slow: ComCom explained the problem in Georgia

26% of users' routers do not provide the declared speed

The Georgian National Communications Commission (ComCom) conducted a study on the quality of fixed Internet and found that users often receive speeds lower than those stated in the contract. However, in most cases, the reason is not the provider's network, but the equipment of the subscribers themselves — outdated or weak routers, incorrect location, and interference inside the home.

Laboratory tests revealed that 26% of users' free devices from providers are unable to deliver the declared speed. The main obstacles for Wi-Fi are concrete walls, doors, household appliances, antenna position, a large number of connected devices, frequency mismatch, and interference from neighboring networks.

To help subscribers, ComCom launched the wifi.comcom.ge platform, where you can measure the speed specifically through the router, not the cable, identify the cause of the speed drop, and get recommendations for improving the signal. If necessary, the commission advises replacing the outdated router with a modern one.
