The State Security Service of Georgia has launched an investigation into possible sabotage and unauthorized access to the computer system of the Government Administration. The agency reported that the attack may have been aimed at spreading false information with potential political and economic consequences for the country. In this regard, the SSG recommended that the media and individuals refrain from spreading dubious information.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 318 (Sabotage) and 284 (Unauthorized intrusion into a computer system) of the Criminal Code. The agency cited the publication on the government website on December 25 of data on the purchase of natural gas from Gazprom, including volumes and prices, as the basis for the investigation.
This information caused a wide resonance in the Georgian media and was removed from the site after publication. The SSG continues to work to clarify all the circumstances in order to prevent possible damage to state interests.
