Svaneti has seen a record increase in electricity consumption: in 2025, the figure increased by 6% compared to 2024, and since 2021, the growth has been an impressive 45%. Local authorities warn that the main driver of the load remains uncontrolled crypto mining, and if the trend continues, the region faces new meters and increased tariffs for residents.

Energo-Pro Georgia statistics show that consumption in Mestia has grown in recent years from 101.6 million kWh in 2021 to 132.9 million kWh in 2025. It is also noted that almost two years ago, a GNERC study revealed a critical state of the network due to illegal connections of mining farms and overloading of lines.

Local officials warn that if miners do not reduce the load, Svaneti may face serious power outages and the introduction of strict restrictions for domestic consumers. The energy situation in the region remains tense and requires urgent measures.
