Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the project to lay an underwater power cable along the bottom of the Black Sea is of transformational importance for both the country and the entire region. He made this statement while speaking at the Leaders Dialogue within the framework of Sustainable Development Week in Abu Dhabi, where the role of the Middle Corridor in connecting Europe and Asia was discussed.
This refers to an international project, the agreement for which was signed in December 2022 by the governments of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Romania, and Hungary. The cable should ensure the supply of electricity from Georgia directly to Europe. The country's authorities have repeatedly emphasized the high potential of renewable energy sources and the desire to establish themselves as a key transit energy hub.
According to Kobakhidze, the implementation of the project will allow increasing generating capacity, launching electricity exports, and entering new European markets. He noted that without this infrastructure solution, it would be difficult for Georgia to fully utilize its own energy resources. The Prime Minister emphasized that the project is mutually beneficial and can significantly increase the productivity and sustainability of the country's energy sector.
