A Ticketless Night: Tbilisi Cancels Fares and Extends Transport Hours

Buses, the metro, and the cable car will carry passengers until 03:00 on New Year's Eve and Orthodox Christmas

On New Year's Eve, from December 31st to January 1st, Tbilisi's public transport will operate free of charge and with extended hours. This was announced by the city hall's press service, emphasizing that the decision was made for the convenience of residents and visitors of the capital during the festive hours.

Buses, the metro, and the Rike-Narikala cable car will serve passengers until 03:00 AM. For comparison, on regular days, bus services end at 11:00 PM, the cable car closes at 10:00 PM, and the metro operates until midnight, with the second line running until 00:30. On the festive night, all transport will operate synchronously and without fare charges.

A similar schedule is planned for Orthodox Christmas night. From January 6th to 7th, Tbilisi's public transport will also be available to passengers until 03:00 AM. The city hall notes that this practice has become traditional and aims to improve safety and comfort during mass celebrations.
