Ryanair May Return to Georgia: Airline CEO Discusses New Flights with Ambassador

The budget carrier is reconsidering Georgian airports after a five-year hiatus

Georgian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Sophie Katsarava, met with Ryanair's Executive Chairman, Michael O'Leary, during which the parties discussed the possibility of resuming flights to Georgian airports. According to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the negotiations touched upon the prospects of the largest European low-cost airline returning to the local market.

Ryanair operated flights to Georgia before the pandemic, but after the lifting of Covid restrictions, the carrier never restored the routes. Before the break, the airline served over 21,000 passengers, offering flights from Tbilisi and Kutaisi to Bologna and Marseille. The return of the low-cost airline could significantly revive competition and expand available destinations for Georgian travelers.

The discussions are currently at an early stage, but the meeting with the head of Ryanair already increases the likelihood that budget flights will reappear in the schedule of Georgian airports.
