TV Pirveli stopped satellite broadcasting

Due to financial difficulties

Georgian opposition TV channel TV Pirveli has announced the suspension of satellite broadcasting. The channel said in a statement that the high costs of satellite and open broadcasting have become unbearable, and the channel cannot cover them.

Domestic broadcasting continues through cable operators and online platforms, including the website and social networks. Viewers outside of Georgia who connected via satellite have temporarily lost access to broadcasting. TV Pirveli has launched a fundraising campaign to resume satellite coverage, providing details for donations.

The financial difficulties of TV channels occur against the background of new laws restricting media activity in Georgia and blocking foreign grants and investments. In February, the opposition channel Formula also reported problems.
