The Georgian National Communications Commission has announced that it will begin actively enforcing the norms of the Law on Broadcasting and the Broadcasters' Code of Conduct starting next week. The agency stated that this is necessary for more effective compliance with objectivity standards in the work of the media.

The commission notes that the current legislation is based on the British regulatory model and international standards. It grants the regulator the right to monitor compliance with the principles of accuracy, impartiality, and fairness in informational materials. Previously, the commission mainly responded only to complaints and did not initiate administrative proceedings on its own initiative.

The changes became possible after amendments to the Law on Broadcasting, adopted by the parliament in March 2025. Now the regulator has received broader powers. In case of violations, TV and radio broadcasters may receive a warning, a fine, temporary suspension of the license, or its complete cancellation. Mandatory requirements also include the protection of privacy and compliance with safety standards for minors.
