In Georgia, alongside the initiative to create a state bank, a proposal has been put forward to open a state pharmaceutical plant. The initiative was put forward by representatives of the "European Socialists" party, emphasizing that the project aims to produce high-quality and safe drugs at an affordable price with state guarantees.
The authors of the idea note that it is not about forming a state network of pharmacies. According to MP Vladimir Bojadze, despite the established "price ceiling" on more than 7,000 drug names, the problem of high drug costs remains acute.
It is assumed that the company's activities will not be focused on making a profit, but the main task will be to provide the population with affordable drugs and strengthen the role of the state in regulating the pharmaceutical market.
