The Road Department of Georgia has announced a temporary ban on the movement of trucks towards Russia. The restrictions are in effect on the section of the Georgian Military Road between Gudauri and Kobi due to unsafe weather conditions: blizzard, ice, and a high risk of avalanches make the passage of trucks extremely dangerous.
According to the decree, only passenger vehicles are allowed to move on this section, and without stops. Drivers are required to use anti-avalanche tunnels where they exist as an alternative to the main route.
Thus, freight traffic between Russia and Georgia is suspended indefinitely until the weather improves and the road becomes safe for heavy vehicles.
