Georgian Railways has begun modernizing passenger trains ahead of the summer season. Currently, two trainsets are undergoing repairs, which, upon completion, will return to the lines and serve passengers during periods of increased demand. The company is carrying out the rolling stock upgrade using its own resources.
Lasha Abashidze, General Director of JSC "Georgian Railways", inspected the progress of the work. According to him, specialists have identified all the main technical problems of passenger trains and have already moved on to the active phase of repair and modernization. The goal of the project is to increase the reliability of trains and improve passenger transportation conditions.
After completing work on the first two trainsets, the company plans to begin overhauling three more passenger trains. These trains are used on various routes within the country, with the exception of the Tbilisi-Batumi route, which is served by modern Stadler trains. The modernization should ensure the stable operation of rail services during the peak tourist season.
