Euronews Georgia has announced a transition to a new broadcasting format: viewers will now be shown exclusively international Euronews news, adapted for the Georgian audience. The decision is related to the revision of the operating model and the desire to meet the expectations of viewers and current trends in the international media market.
The company's statement notes that the current broadcasting model does not provide sufficient financial resources to cover expenses and fulfill franchise obligations with Euronews SA. This was also influenced by changes in the advertising market in Georgia, which limit the income opportunities for a local broadcaster.
Euronews Georgia started operating in Georgian in 2020, offering both international news and materials about the politics and life of the country. The project was launched under a franchise agreement between French Euronews and Georgian Silk Media, which is part of the Silk Road Group. Georgia became the third country after Albania and Serbia with a local Euronews representation under a franchise.
