Turkey and Azerbaijan have signed a new agreement on the transportation of natural gas through the territory of Georgia. The agreement concerns 33 billion cubic meters of gas from the Absheron field in Azerbaijan, which will be supplied to Turkey via the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline, reports BM.ge.
The agreement will come into effect in 2029 and will last until 2040. Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced that Turkey will receive 2.25 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas annually for 15 years.
Currently, Azerbaijan ranks second in terms of gas exports to Turkey after Russia, strengthening its role in the regional energy sector and ensuring stable supplies for the next decade.
