Cars worth $1.3 billion were sent from Georgia to Kyrgyzstan, but only crumbs reached the country

Car re-exports are growing into resale schemes on the way to Russia

In 2025, a record number of passenger cars were re-exported from Georgia - 39,000 cars worth $1.3 billion were sent to Kyrgyzstan. However, statistics show that only 2,600 cars worth about $24 million actually arrived in Kyrgyzstan, which is only 2% of the declared volume.

The active flow is due to the fact that Kyrgyzstan does not fall under economic sanctions against Russia, so Kyrgyz dealers resell cars along the way, through the territory of the Russian Federation. On average, the price of a car sent from Georgia was $34,100, and cars worth about $9,000 reached Kyrgyzstan, which confirms mass resale on the Russian market.

The gap between export and import data underscores the complexities of re-exporting through countries with different statistics and economic capabilities. Kyrgyzstan remains one of the poorest countries in the region with a GDP per capita of only $2,400, which is 3.8 times lower than in Georgia, and does not allow it to purchase cars in the declared volumes without the participation of intermediaries.
