A media forum was held in Baku with the participation of pro-government media figures from Azerbaijan and Georgia.
The event was organized by the Azerbaijan Media Development Agency, and among the more than 40 participants, there were no representatives from independent media outlets from the two countries. Forum participants announced their intention to strengthen cooperation and combat the spread of "fake news" about the region.
Georgian speakers actively criticized a recent BBC investigation into the use of the chemical irritant camite at protests in Tbilisi, calling the report a "hybrid attack" and "disinformation."
Representatives of POSTV emphasized the need to create rules restricting the dissemination of materials that could cause tension between Georgia and Azerbaijan. Participants in the forum called the Azerbaijani agency APA a "reliable source."
The forum took place against the backdrop of increasing pressure on independent media in both Azerbaijan and Georgia.
