At Kutaisi International Airport, the construction of a new runway and necessary infrastructure is entering its final stage. Work began in late 2024, and the project is planned for completion by the end of 2026. This was announced by Levan Moseshvili, CEO of "Airports of Georgia" company.

After the upgrade, the airport will receive modern navigation equipment that will allow it to accommodate larger aircraft without restrictions. Specifically, this refers to wide-body aircraft, which previously could not fully utilize the airport's infrastructure.

According to company representatives, the new runway should help increase passenger traffic, attract additional cargo transportation, and strengthen Kutaisi's role as an international aviation hub. The project is being implemented by the construction company "Anagi" commissioned by "Airports of Georgia". The total cost of construction, according to the state budget for 2026, is 179.5 million GEL.
