In the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, law enforcement agencies seized another 76 cryptocurrency mining devices during further searches in Mestia Municipality. Thus, the total number of confiscated units within the investigation has reached 330.
According to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the investigation is related to cases of illegal use of energy resources. It is assumed that some local residents systematically used equipment for cryptocurrency mining, consuming significant amounts of electricity without legal grounds.
Law enforcement continues investigative actions to identify all participants in the scheme and assess the damage. The case is being investigated under Article 229¹ of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for liability for violating the rules for using energy resources, including possible imprisonment for up to three years.
