The national carrier Georgian Airways is launching regular flights between Tbilisi and Batumi starting June 25. Flights will operate four times a week during the summer season – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. TAV Georgia, the airport operator, reports that Boeing 737 aircraft will be used, and the flight time will be only about 45 minutes.
The schedule is designed for short trips to the sea: departure from Tbilisi is scheduled for 09:00, and the return flight from Batumi is at 19:30. This schedule allows for a day at the coast without an overnight stay, making the route convenient for weekend trips and business visits.
However, the cost of the flight appears significantly higher than alternatives. A one-way ticket will cost 343–419 GEL, while a train journey costs from 36 to 76 GEL with a travel time of about 5 hours. The bus route is even cheaper – approximately 45 GEL, but takes up to 6–7 hours. Against this backdrop, the airline flight becomes the fastest, but also the most expensive way to travel between the two cities.
