Georgia Postpones Ban on Sale of Drinks in Plastic Bottles Until 2031

The decision was made after discussions with businesses, and restrictions will be implemented in stages

In Georgia, the government has postponed the entry into force of the ban on the sale of drinks in plastic bottles by four years.

This was announced by Irakli Kobakhidze at a government meeting on April 8. According to him, the decision was made after an active dialogue with business representatives to ensure a smooth transition to the new norms.

It was previously planned that from July 1, 2026, catering establishments would stop serving drinks in plastic bottles, and from February 1, 2027, a complete ban on the production (except for export), import and sale of such products would come into force.

The postponement until 2031 gives companies more time to adapt and find alternative packaging solutions.
