Georgia Prepares to Increase Electricity Tariffs for All Consumer Categories

Price increases are attributed to investments in networks and the general upward trend in prices

The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) is considering new electricity tariffs that will take effect next year. According to the head of the commission, David Narmania, the increase will be moderate, but it will affect all groups of subscribers.

The tariff revision is due to the need for large investments in distribution networks and the general increase in electricity prices on the market. The commission plans to announce the final decision at a public meeting. Previously, after the rate cuts at the beginning of 2024, the tariffs were in effect for three years.

Today's tariffs for Tbilisi residents are 15 tetri for the first 101 kWh, 19 tetri for 101–301 kWh, and 23.5 tetri for over 301 kWh. In other regions of the country, the rates are slightly lower — 14.731; 15.707 and 23.227 tetri, respectively. The new tariffs will balance investments in the networks and cover the increasing costs of electricity.
