Georgia closes the transit gestalt: East-West highway is almost ready

Authorities promise to complete the key road connecting the Caucasus with Europe and Asia

Georgia plans to fully complete the construction of its section of the East-West highway, also known as the European transit corridor E-60, in the near future. This was announced by the country's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, emphasizing that the development of road infrastructure remains one of the government's priorities against the backdrop of Georgia's growing transit role.

According to the head of government, it is about completing the entire high-speed highway from the Red Bridge on the border with Azerbaijan to Sarpi in the Turkish direction. The authorities have already approved a phased plan that provides for the commissioning of all remaining sections of the highway in the coming years. At the same time, large-scale road construction continues in the country: from 2012 to 2025, 315 km of new highways were built in Georgia.

The East-West highway is considered the second longest European transit corridor: the route starts in Brest, France, and ends in Irkeshtam, Kyrgyzstan. The Georgian section, 392 km long, connects the Azerbaijani border with the Black Sea coast near the port of Poti and plays a key role in the transit of goods between Europe and Asia.
