The 25% tariffs on imports of cars and key auto parts, introduced by the United States in May 2025, have also proven to be significant for the Georgian car market. Industry representatives note that affordable used cars have felt the impact the most. Alexander Vekua, Head of Sales at Caucasus Auto Import, said on BMG that popular cars became more expensive almost immediately after the tariffs came into effect.
According to Vekua, the cost of the most liquid models increased by 10–15%, and the jump was instantaneous — as soon as the United States changed its trade policy. He emphasized that the impact of tariffs is only maintained in the segment of inexpensive and popular cars, while there is no noticeable effect on the rest of the market. At the same time, it is incorrect to compare prices with last year: the tariffs only came into effect in 2025, so their impact was felt for the first time.
Despite the increase in prices, demand continues to grow. Caucasus Auto Import reported that in 11 months, import volume increased by 20%, and re-export by 10%. Importers are confident that the market has adapted, and interest in used cars remains steadily high, even against the background of rising prices.
