Companies working on projects in the renewable energy sector will receive a large-scale financial respite: the state will write off accumulated fines and penalties amounting to about 1 billion GEL. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, noting that debt burdens from previous years have become a serious obstacle to the development of the energy system and have hampered the implementation of large projects.
The cancellation of fines is provided on the condition that companies strictly adhere to the updated schedules, and in case of new violations, they will be returned both newly accrued sanctions and previously forgiven debts. According to Kobakhidze, this decision simultaneously removes the financial barrier and creates an incentive to complete all projects on time. The new format of interaction involves the revision of agreements and clearer mutual obligations.
The Prime Minister called the initiative the start of a new stage of cooperation between the state and the industry, in which strict control will be combined with support. He stressed that the updated energy policy will accelerate the development of the sector and strengthen the country's economic independence.
Kobakhidze also thanked the Ministry of Economy for preparing the decision and expressed hope that companies will implement projects in the field of RES as efficiently as possible.
