The Borjomi-Bakuriani narrow-gauge railway is preparing for a large-scale restoration: "Georgian Railway" announced a tender for 4.8 million GEL to restore the historic stations and infrastructure of the route. The works will affect objects with cultural heritage status.
The project provides for a "design-build" format, in which the contractor simultaneously develops documentation and performs restoration work. The list includes the stations of Bakuriani, Daba, Tsami, Libani and Tsagveri, as well as passenger platforms and administrative buildings.
The restoration is aimed at preserving the historical appearance and restoring damaged infrastructure elements. It is also planned to modernize engineering systems, improve territories and improve conditions for passengers. After the completion of the works, the route should regain its tourist attractiveness, which has been lost since 2020 due to the poor condition of the stations.
