In Georgia, a large-scale raid against illegal crypto miners was conducted for the first time in Mestia Municipality. Law enforcement officers seized 148 devices for mining digital assets, which, according to the investigation, could have been operating for years in violation of electricity consumption rules.
According to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the inspection covered six locations in the region. Specialized equipment using computing power to generate cryptocurrency was found there. The agency stated that local residents systematically received income by illegally consuming large volumes of electricity.
The investigation is ongoing and is identifying possible accomplices. The case is being investigated under an article on violation of energy resource usage rules, which provides for punishment of up to three years of imprisonment.
