Poverty in Georgia Recedes: Authorities Announce Record Improvement in Situation

Over the year, the number of people living below the poverty line in the country significantly decreased, and the level of well-being continues to grow

In Georgia, the poverty level continues to decline. According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia, Sakstat, in 2025, an additional 2.3% of the population managed to overcome the poverty line. Currently, the share of residents experiencing a lack of minimum subsistence means is 7.1% of the country's total population.

The situation has improved in both urban and rural areas. In cities, about 6% of residents are currently below the poverty line, and in villages, approximately 9%. Compared to 2024, these figures decreased by 1.8% and 2.9% respectively. Experts note that particularly significant progress is observed in regions where authorities are actively developing infrastructure and employment programs.

Children and adolescents under 18 years old remain the most vulnerable category of the population. In 2025, the poverty rate among minors was 9.2%, but this indicator also improved – it decreased by 2.9 percentage points over the year. The country's authorities previously stated that they expect to completely eliminate poverty and significantly reduce unemployment by 2030. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze called this task one of the key national priorities.
