Armenia and Georgia are discussing deepening cooperation in the field of financial technologies, including the synchronization of instant payment systems, simplification of opening bank accounts, and the introduction of unified QR codes. This was announced by the head of the Department of Financial and Supervisory Technology Development, Varlam Ebanoidze.
According to him, while cargo transportation between the countries takes about one day, settlements last 2–3 days. Synchronization of payment systems will accelerate settlements, increase their efficiency, and give impetus to trade. Simplification of the procedure for opening bank accounts is also being considered — clients will be able to use a single KYC package when switching to a bank in another country. Another initiative could be the unification of QR codes so that cross-border transactions are processed as local ones.
Relevant consultations are already underway with the Central Bank of Armenia. The discussion took place at the Doing Digital 2026 forum in Yerevan, which annually brings together leading experts in the field of digital economy and financial technologies and forms a platform for discussing innovations and economic trends.
