Georgia Updates Record for Purchases of Russian Copper

Russia Becomes Leading Supplier for the First Time, Import Share Soars to 55%

In early 2026, Georgia sharply increased its purchases of copper from Russia. According to "Sakstat", in February, Russian products accounted for 54.9% of all imports, reaching $2.2 million — a record level in history. Thus, Russia came in first place among suppliers of copper to the country.

In addition to Russia, the main exporters of copper to Georgia in February were Uzbekistan, Turkey, China, and Italy. The significant increase in purchases of Russian copper underscores the changing import structure and the strengthening of trade ties between the two countries in the metallurgical segment.
