Georgia has set an ambitious goal - to fully provide the country with electricity of its own production. This was stated by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, at a meeting of the Advisory Council of the Southern Gas Corridor and the Green Energy Council, which was held in Baku.
According to the Minister, Georgia already plays an important role as a transit country in the Southern Gas Corridor system and helps to diversify energy supplies to regional and European markets. She stressed that sustainable cooperation between countries and infrastructure development remain key factors for the formation of a stable energy system.
The country's authorities expect to achieve full energy independence by 2036. To this end, it is planned to attract large investments in the development of renewable energy sources, modernization of power grids and construction of new cross-border energy connections.
