Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that Tbilisi State University and Georgian Technical University will not be merged. The decision was reversed after consultations with the rector and faculty of GTU.
At the same time, Georgian Technical University will stop admitting students to humanities faculties. All non-technical programs already operating at the university will be completed within two years so that students can finish their studies. In the future, GTU will teach only technical disciplines, as it did before the 1990s.
Thus, the university returns to the original concept of its creation: focusing on engineering and technical education, which will strengthen the profile of training specialists in high-tech areas of the country.
