Georgia seeks ways to reduce fuel prices: government discusses new measures with business

The Prime Minister and the country's major fuel companies have begun a joint search for resources to make gasoline and diesel cheaper

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held a meeting with representatives of major fuel companies in the format of the government price commission. The main topic of discussion was opportunities to reduce fuel costs in the country. Business representatives assessed the current market situation, supply chains, and pricing mechanisms, while the authorities noted that fuel in Georgia is now cheaper than in Europe thanks to the state policy of reducing excise taxes.

Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized that cooperation between the state and the private sector will make it possible to find additional resources to reduce prices for the population. The authorities plan to continue the dialogue in the format of a parliamentary commission, inviting representatives of relevant industries to meetings in order to respond promptly to price dynamics.

Earlier, Kobakhidze promised to address high food prices, which in Georgian stores significantly exceed European levels. The government continues to investigate the causes — including possible collusion between distributors and retail chains — and is simultaneously working on mechanisms to make fuel cheaper for citizens.
