From January 1, 2026, Georgia will launch a large-scale "amnesty" for drivers deprived of their licenses for violating the point system. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs' decision, licenses will be automatically restored, and everyone will receive 100 points back. In total, this will affect about 35.5 thousand citizens who, before December 16, 2025, lost their licenses for alcohol, drugs, leaving the scene of an accident, or exhausting their points.
The restoration process will be phased. Drivers who used drugs (approximately 3.5 thousand) will require a medical certificate. Another approximately 11 thousand will be able to regain their licenses after paying fines. For 20 thousand citizens deprived of their licenses for alcohol or fleeing the scene of an accident, the restoration schedule will be published on the Ministry of Internal Affairs website by February 1, 2026.
In addition, the parliament has abolished the norms that previously allowed for the early restoration of rights after administrative violations. As a result, the new system will become more transparent, and drivers will receive equal conditions for regaining the right to drive a car.
