Georgia Bets on Megaprojects: Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and Anaklia Port Take Center Stage

Authorities promise to accelerate infrastructure projects and boost economic growth as early as 2026

In 2026, Georgian authorities will focus their maximum efforts on the development of key infrastructure projects that should become drivers of the country's economic growth. Priorities include the completion of the modernization of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the active phase of construction of the Anaklia deep-sea port. This was stated by the Minister of Economy of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, outlining the main guidelines of economic policy for the coming year.

According to the head of the department, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project is considered as a strategic element of the country's transit potential, and the port of Anaklia should significantly strengthen Georgia's position on the Black Sea and in international logistics chains. In parallel, the government intends to pay special attention to the development of the energy sector, which is seen as the basis for sustainable economic growth.

In addition to infrastructure, the authorities plan to intensify the social agenda. Among the stated tasks are measures to reduce poverty and improve the welfare of the population. As Kvrivishvili emphasized, economic development should directly affect the quality of life of citizens, and not be limited to the growth of macroeconomic indicators.
