The Telegram channel "Truha Georgia" released a publication titled "Tbilisi That No Longer Exists", which quickly attracted the attention of users. The project's authors used artificial intelligence to transform archival images into dynamic video scenes, where the capital of Georgia from past centuries literally comes to life before your eyes.
The footage shows streets and parks filled with people, lively trade taking place, and carriages and horse-drawn trams—the predecessor to the tram—moving across bridges. In the courtyards, as today, laundry is hung out to dry, and the urban environment looks noisy, vibrant, and surprisingly familiar, despite the historical distance.
The project does not aim for spectacular reconstruction for the sake of spectacle. Rather, it is a rare opportunity to see everyday Tbilisi as it really was—alive, mobile, and recognizable. Thanks to AI, the archive ceases to be static and turns into a visual story about a city that changes but retains its character.
