In Georgia, the rapid growth of data centers engaged in mining has begun to noticeably strain the power system. According to the SEC, their consumption volume jumped threefold in January–October, reaching 617 million kWh, which is equal to 5% of the country's total energy consumption. Experts directly attribute such a rapid jump to the growth in the value of cryptocurrencies, which has fueled interest in the extraction of digital assets.
The largest consumer was AiTec Solution, which used 357 million kWh. In second place is Texprint Corporation from the Kutaisi FEZ with 124 million kWh. Rounding out the top three is TEF Z Service with 104 million kWh, and the company itself does not mine but supplies electricity to other market participants.
Against the background of these giants, smaller players are also noticeable: ITLabs used 24.6 million kWh, and Data Hub used 7.2 million kWh. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation, as the load from crypto mining is already comparable to the consumption of large industrial sectors.
