The construction of the Anaklia deep-water port in Georgia has entered an active phase. According to Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, the scale of the project is already becoming apparent. Currently, two dredger vessels are working in the water area, deepening the seabed, while the construction of the breakwater continues in parallel.
The second dredger, Al-Idrisi, has already started work following the vessel Tristao Da Cunha. The deepening of the water area should create conditions for the further development of port infrastructure and the reception of large-tonnage vessels. The Georgian government believes that the new port can significantly strengthen the country's position on the Black Sea.
According to Ioseliani, Anaklia is of strategic importance not only for Georgia but also for the entire region. The project should increase the country's competitiveness and strengthen its role within the Middle Corridor. Work is being carried out in accordance with the approved schedule, and the authorities expect to ensure the port's full operational mode by 2029.
