On the night of July 24, a large-scale power outage occurred in Georgia, which also affected Abkhazia. According to the Georgian State Electrosystem, at about 00:10 local time, electricity supply was emergency cut off in several regions of the country at once.
Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Telavi, Borjomi, Bakuriani, Zugdidi and other settlements were temporarily left without light. Due to the shutdown of pumping stations, there were interruptions in water supply in Tbilisi, Rustavi and Mtskheta. Georgian Water and Power confirmed that the outage affected the entire country and warned residents about possible temporary restrictions on water supply.
The cause of the accident has not yet been officially disclosed. Information about a possible failure on the high-voltage line connecting the energy systems of Georgia and Turkey was spread on social networks, but the Georgian State Electrosystem denied this version. During the night, electricity supply began to gradually recover, and by the time of publication, electricity had already returned to most areas of Tbilisi.
