Georgia opened a new page in small aviation: for the first time, a school for ultralight aircraft instructors was certified

Aviation school "Mimino" received GCAA permission to train pilot-instructors, saving specialists from having to study abroad.

For the first time in Georgia, an officially certified school for training ultralight aircraft instructors has appeared. The aviation school "Mimino" received the relevant certificate from the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency (GCAA), confirming compliance with new state requirements.

Before this, there was no full-fledged system of certified training for specialists of this profile in the country. From May 1, 2026, new rules for educational organizations engaged in the training of ultralight aviation pilots began to operate in Georgia.

New standards provide for requirements for theoretical and practical training, minimum flight hours, equipment of aviation schools and qualifications of teachers. Now, only organizations that have passed the inspection and received official permission have the right to train and retrain instructors.

GCAA inspectors checked the documentation of the "Mimino" school, and also assessed its training base at the airfield, after which they confirmed compliance with the established norms.

Class 2 ultralight aviation includes two-seat aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of up to 544 kg for land models and up to 614 kg for seaplanes and amphibians. In Georgia, this segment is actively developing due to the growth of the tourism industry and interest in extreme sports. Previously, local pilots often had to undergo training outside the country to obtain the necessary qualifications.
