The first passenger train, which departed from Baku the previous evening, arrived in Tbilisi in the morning. The train, organized by Azerbaijan Railways, arrived with a slight deviation from the schedule and was met at the city's central station.
The resumption of the route was the first in a six-year break in railway communication between the capitals of the two countries. Georgian authorities stated that the restoration of the Baku–Tbilisi line would contribute to the growth of tourist flows and strengthen economic ties.
The train runs along an updated route with stops at key stations along the way. In Azerbaijan, stops are provided in a number of large settlements, and in Georgia – at Gardabani station.
It is noted that the resumed communication should become an important factor in the development of transport and tourism integration in the region.
