Georgia’s international foreign exchange reserves rose to an all-time high of $8.14 billion, doubling compared to 2024. This was announced by the President of the National Bank of Georgia, Natia Turnava, at the Tbilisi Financial Summit. According to her, the accumulation of funds was driven by a favorable macroeconomic environment and significant capital inflows. In addition, the reserve adequacy ratio under the International Monetary Fund methodology exceeded 128% for the first time.
The National Bank began actively increasing reserves in 2025, and in 2026 it accelerated purchases of foreign currency. Between January and September, the regulator acquired a total of $3.4 billion. Operations on the Bmatch platform were carried out almost every month: the largest net purchases took place in May — $632.9 million and June — $612.6 million. The only month with net currency sales was March, when the volume of sales amounted to $16.2 million.

In the remaining months, net purchases amounted to $86.6 million in January, $429.3 million in February, $333.3 million in April, $488.2 million in July, $555.6 million in August, and $248.5 million in September. According to preliminary estimates, the National Bank may have continued replenishing reserves in October as well, though official data is expected in early November. According to forecasts, by the end of 2026, the volume of Georgia’s international reserves could approach $9 billion.
