Tbilisi central railway station faces a large-scale renovation for 7 million GEL

Escalators, emergency lighting, and fire safety systems will be installed on three platforms

Georgian Railway has begun a major overhaul of the “Tbilisi Central” station. The project, valued at around 7 million GEL (approximately $2.7 million), provides for the modernization of passenger infrastructure and enhanced safety. The works will affect platforms, waiting areas, and passages between them.

As part of the renovation, three platforms will be upgraded and four escalators installed. Waiting areas will be modernized, and platforms will be equipped with fire protection systems and emergency lighting. These changes are intended to make the station more convenient for passengers and improve movement conditions across its grounds.

At the same time, the project provides for the dismantling of the underground walkway between platforms and the staircase connecting the “Tbilisi Central” building with one of the platforms. All works are scheduled to be completed in the autumn of 2027. Following the implementation of the project, Tbilisi’s central railway station will receive renewed infrastructure designed for more comfortable passenger service.
