Georgia increased solar panel imports by 8.2 times

Over 9 months, purchases reached a record $158 million amid the construction of large power plants.

From January to September 2026, Georgia imported solar panels worth $158 million. This is a record figure: for the same period last year, expenses were about $19 million, meaning the current result is $139 million, or 8.2 times, higher.

One of the reasons for the sharp increase was the construction of large solar power plants. In Marneuli, a 73 MW power plant project is being developed with the participation of the German company Voltares Energy. Another 105 MW facility is being built in the village of Yalgudzha by the Georgian company Itek Marneuli, associated with the Chinese solar panel manufacturer Sungrow.

In addition to large projects, smaller solar power plants are being built in the country. At the same time, residents' interest in installing panels in private homes is growing. The combination of large-scale energy projects and public demand contributes to an increase in equipment purchases from abroad.
