The Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation has begun rehabilitation of the "Kazakh-Saguramo" main gas pipeline, which, in addition to domestic supplies, carries Russian gas transit to Armenia. The first procurement involves replacing three corroded sections of 1020 mm diameter pipe at the 115th, 116.3rd, and 119th kilometers. The cost of the work is estimated at 425,576 GEL. The repair is necessary to reduce gas losses and ensure the safe operation of the pipeline.
The work can only be carried out during the shutdown of Russian gas transit to Armenia, scheduled for September 15–25. Therefore, the pipe replacement must be completed by September 25 – otherwise, the next suitable window for repair will likely have to wait until summer–autumn 2027. All work on active pipelines is authorized to be performed by OOO "Georgian Gas Transportation Company".
Another 141,012 GEL will be allocated for diagnostics and testing of the section between the 41st and 43rd kilometers in the border area of Georgia and Azerbaijan. This work is related to the modernization of the gas pipeline's continuation in Azerbaijan. Upon its completion, it will be possible to increase the nominal pressure of gas entering Georgia to 2.8 MPa, which will increase the system's throughput capacity.
