As of August 2026, Georgia's international reserves reached an all-time high of $8.14 billion. According to the National Bank of Georgia, the indicator grew by 56.4% over the year, and by $613 million in the last month alone. The level of reserves now stands at 128.2% of the adequacy threshold according to the International Monetary Fund's ARA metric methodology.
The NBG notes that over the past two years, the volume of reserves has almost doubled compared to October 2024. Foreign exchange purchases made a significant contribution to growth in 2026: from January to July, the National Bank acquired a net $2.57 billion. Further accumulation of reserves is carried out under favorable conditions in the foreign exchange market to strengthen the country's macroeconomic stability.
Gold was an additional factor. In 2024, the NBG decided for the first time to diversify its reserve assets and began investing in the precious metal. Since then, the value of gold has risen significantly, which also increased the total volume of Georgia's international reserves. Statistics on net currency purchases for August will be published on September 25.
