In July 2026, Georgia increased electricity production at HPPs, solar, and wind power plants, while thermal generation sharply decreased. According to Galt & Taggart's electricity market review, the month was the last period of supply surplus due to reduced domestic consumption and good hydrological conditions.
Hydroelectric power plants generated 1.4 TWh – 3.9% more than a year earlier. They accounted for 98% of the total supply. At the same time, generation from the Enguri-Vardnili complex increased by 8.8%, while other regulated and unregulated HPPs saw a decrease of 0.2% and 2.6% respectively.
Production at solar and wind stations increased 2.1 times, reaching 0.9% of the total supply. This growth was driven by new capacities – 10.8 MW of solar and 18.8 MW of wind generation.
Against this backdrop, thermal power plants practically disappeared from July's energy balance: their share decreased from 4% a year earlier to 0.4%, and their output was only 0.01 TWh.
However, for January–July, the situation looks different. HPP generation decreased by 5.3%, while solar and wind increased by 61.6%, and thermal by 18.6%. Electricity imports increased by 16.9%.
As a result, the combined share of imports and thermal generation for the seven months reached 26.5% compared to 22.5% a year earlier.
