Starting September 1, 2026, Georgia will begin checking the noise levels produced by vehicles directly on the roads. For this purpose, authorized units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will use certified portable sound level meters that comply with the international standard ISO 5130:2019.
Initially, control will focus on nighttime. From 23:00 to 08:00, the noise level from a vehicle in populated areas must not exceed 80 dB. If the indicator is higher than the established limit, the driver will be fined and penalty points will be deducted from their driver's license.
For the first violation, a fine of 100 GEL and a deduction of 10 points are provided. For a repeated excess, the sanction increases to 200 GEL and 20 points. For the third and each subsequent violation, a fine of 300 GEL will be imposed, and the driver will lose 30 points.
The rules for conducting such checks were approved by the order of the Minister of Internal Affairs in July. Measurements will be carried out with special portable devices directly in traffic conditions.
Thus, a too loud exhaust, a modified exhaust system, or another source of increased noise can now result in not only a monetary fine for the motorist but also a significant loss of penalty points.
